[Monday Minute] A website formatting tip

Happy Monday, Reader and welcome to the Monday Minute!

Today, I want to give you a quick formatting lesson for your website.

I'll paint the picture first:

Imagine we're on your home page banner. You've got "The best physical therapy practice in Mooserupert Land, California" and because it's a long line of text, it breaks to the next line after Mooserupert and before Land, so it looks like this:

Most people will tell me "I don't want it to split after Mooserupert, I want it to split so that "in Mooserupert Land, California" is on one line and "The best physical therapy practice" is on the other, like this:

I will agree, that looks better.

But to make that happen, they will hit that little "enter" or "return" button after the word "practice" so that the other line pops right on down, and BINGO! Exactly what they want.

But, no.

Why though? Because even though it may look good on your screen, it will break weirdly on your website visitors' screens and also on mobile devices because screens are different sizes.

The best part about your website editor is that it's adaptable to all screen sizes, so it adjusts based on the size of the screen of your visitor!!

When you use the enter/return button to get "in Mooserupert Land, California" on one line, some people will see it like this, because the website is dynamically adjusting to a screen that is smaller than yours:

Eeek.. not good.

So what do you do? Please refrain from using that enter key to split up sentences into multiple lines, and instead, use your website editor to make the actual text box on your website smaller. And if it's still not breaking well, maybe we reorder or reword the sentence. And this goes for all text on your website, btw. Not just your home page banner.

And as always, check to see what the page looks like on your desktop and a mobile device before publishing and walking away.

Have a great week!
Lex

Happy Monday, Reader and welcome to the Monday Minute! I learned a concept in grad school called "The Spoon Theory" from a patient I treated who had multiple sclerosis (MS). You can read more about The Spoon Theory here (please do). In short, the concept was coined by writer Christine Miserandino, who was living with a chronic illness. She used "spoons" to depict her finite amount of energy each day to live her life and complete the necessary daily tasks from eating and getting dressed to...

Happy Monday, Reader and welcome to the Monday Minute! Today, I want to share a DM I received from a friend on Instagram. As you may or may not know, I have monthly done-for-you SEO services and as a part of that service, I write blogs for clients. I enjoy it so much because I get to help my clients get found on Google but I also get to use my physical therapist brain (I know most people in my ecosystem know that I am trained as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, but I also have others tell me...

Happy Monday, Reader and welcome to the Monday Minute! Today I wanted to remind you about testing your processes. On a coaching call last week, one of my clients was confused about what the consumer experience would look like and "hoped" that it was good. The good news: you don't have to guess when it comes to this stuff. EVERYTHING can be tested. Whether you're a brick-and-mortar business owner or an online business owner, I can bet you have some sort of process you have each of your clients...
